To encourage, promote and teach our budding dancers to create inspirational, exciting and entertaining choreography for modern jive routines.

The Challenge

Choreograph one and a half minute modern jive routine to a piece of music of our choice.

The choreography is to be completed in groups of two people only.

One of the dances must be an Advanced or Champions level dancer and the other dancer must be a beginner or intermediate level dancer.

Each pair will choreograph to the same piece of music.

The higher level dancer’s goal is to teach another dancer the how to of good modern jive choreo techniques….

This is a fun competition and whilst it is nice to win, the spirit & focus should be about development, learning and inspiring younger dancers to start doing their own choreography. Their growth is the most important factor in this competition.

We encourage experienced dancers/choreographers to look & identify raw talent and nurture them to become the best choreographer they can be.

Rules / Conditions

Entry is open to anyone who has a Lavish ticket.

Maximum of 10 couples for this competition.

The choreography is to be completed by the couples who have registered for the competition without any assistance from any other person.

The couples must consist of one Advanced or Champions level dancer and one Beginner or Intermediate level dancer. Each person may only enter the competition once.

The routines are to be performed by the choreographing couple only.

Couples cannot have previously choreographed a modern jive routine together before or helped  to choreograph a modern jive routine before..

Everyone will have the same piece of music. The music will be supplied to registered couples on the 1^st July 2011 or upon registration if after 1 July 2011..

A maximum of 1 aerial and 2 baby aerials are allowed. An aerial occurs when the majority of one partner’s weight is above the chest of the other partner. A baby aerial occurs when one partner has both feet off the floor and the majority of their weight is below the other partner’s chest. .

The choreography must be 80% recognizable modern jive.

Couples may not dance “breakaway” for more than 8 straight counts at a time. Couples may not dance “breakaway” for more than 32 straight counts in total. Dips & drops are allowed.

Costumes are encouraged but not required.

No props allowed.

Judges

The competition will be judged by the couples who enter it.

“Under the Sails” in the heart of the Broadbeach Mall. 

Join us for dinner in the surrounding restaurants and cafes and then dance off your meal in the open air to awesome music with fantastic people.   Join us at Pizzacake at 6pm or get a group of your own friends and pick a spot.

If we get enough people there at 7pm we’ll conduct a  beginner/introductory class and then we’ll dance to one of our new dance party playlists until 10pm.

The Brisbanite’s biggest and bestest dance venue will have a regular dance night if you’re busting at the seams for a boogie.  There’s a few of us who will be chomping at the bit so we’ll get a bit of car pooling going and head up there for a dance.  Hope you can join us.

We have a group going down for the weekend and would love you to join us.  See dancing on a National level and support your local teachers and students.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  This Tuesday night has been cancelled due to the Community Centre needing the venue for their own function. This only occurs a couple of times a year so we apologise for the inconvenience (or disappointment) this may cause.  We were unable to secure another venue on account that most have their own Valentine’s Day functions booked in.  Class will resume the following week as per normal.

Tuesday 14th February is VALENTINE’s DAY so we’re going to teach you how to schmooze up to that special person in the sexiest smooth way – on the dance floor. 

Dress to impress.  Bring a date or come solo.  Fun games and frivolity is promised along with a lucky door prize while romance is in the air….

7:30pm – Beginner class as usual but the night will be themed to suit Cupid’s plan. 

Freestyle will be songs for love and romance.

9:00pm – worshop style class with  Schmooze Moves – getting up close & personal.

Late night nibbles will be provided so if you’d like to BYO a few drinks please feel free to do so…

Last years Good Friday class was heaps of fun with big numbers through the door so we’ve decided to do it again this year.  It’s a great way to start of your Easter Holiday.

We hope to see you at our Broadbeach venue but if you’re going away for the Easter Break, please be safe on the roads and we’ll see you on the dance floor soon. 

Friday 23rd December

Entry will be a flat rate of $10 per person (no passes accepted).  Nibbles and pizza will be supplied and there will be a fun beginner class to kick off the extended night of dancing.  Performances will be around 9pm with many of our regulars involved.   There will be routines from some of our favourites and we’ll have some of the Brisbanites join us as well,  The most recent routine and a couple of displays of routines learnt earlier in the year will also be on show. 

As this is the last class of the year, there will be extended dancing into the wee hours of the morning.  It is BYO so feel free to indulge but remember not to DUI.  That includes excessive Dancing Under the Influence and ensuring you have a DD to and from the venue. 

Le Step on the Coast will then have a couple of weeks off before classes resume in the new year.  Return date will be Tuesday 10th January 2012!

We will resume classes in the new year with the first class back at Arundel on Tuesday 4th January 2011.
